Before we get into this blogpost, let me say, It’s been a while. The pandemic has been very heavy for all humanity and taking time for our mental health is crucial during this heavy time. Please follow all COVID-19 protocols advised by WHO.
So many of us keep clothes we dont wear in a storage or give it away to goodwill.
Well theres a better way to recycle all your old clothes and that is to upcycle them.
Upcycling clothing is taking your old worn out garmets and transforming them into new clothing.
Instead of buying fabric from the fabric store you can use some of your old clothes to create new trendy clothing.
Upcycling can be such a fun project to engage in during this pandemic. Learn all the ways you can turn that old pair of jeans into some shorts and a cool trendy crop top. Look for inspiration on YouTube and tik tok. There are so many young people showing each other how they creatively upcycle their clothes. You could even turn this into a fashion business/project.
Upcycling your clothes contributes to the movement of sustainble fashion and also contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 13 and 15)
I know you must be wondering why should we care about sustainble fashion well thats because the fashion and textile industry contributes to global warming and also contributes to pollution of the ocean. Fabric dyeing alone contributes to 20% of wastewater. The Fashion and textile Industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions.
It is our duty to the future of our planet to move toward sustainable fashion. It will with its our challenges to move towards sustainable fashion but not as big as the challenges are planet faces with drastic climate changes. Up-cycling is one solution and allows for your creativity to thrive!
