What is a Trademark?
A Trade mark is your business name, brand logo, tagline or product name that one uses to differentiate their business from other businesses.
For example, Nike is known for the tagline "Just do it"Why does one trademark their business name, logo and etc?
another example is DeBeers tagline "A Diamond is Forever"
Trademark is an indicator that your products/services are from a source.
It is a pratical way of protecting your business or brand. Once you have registered a trademark you become the exclusive owner of that mark.
How does one go about trademarking their brands, Business name etc.
Trademarking, registration of businesses and companies are carried out at Companies Intellectual Property Auhtority (CIPA) located at Office Park (the location as financial park)
The Application process consists of filling out a form accompanied by a letter to the Registrar requesting for the registration of a trademark. the application fee is P120.00 for individuals and small companies.
